Justin Johnson is the dynamic and highly respected Director of JES Group, a family-owned mechanical engineering company with deep roots in the steel industry. Beginning his journey with the family firm in 1990, Justin’s career has been marked by hands-on experience, hard work, and a commitment to excellence.
After starting with JES on work experience in 1990, Justin started a welding apprenticeship in 1992, honing his skills and gaining invaluable experience. Continuing his journey and to gain
greater industry experience, he worked with several well-respected mechanical engineering companies such as Power Units, Rowecord and Fairwood Fabrications, further expanding his expertise. In 2004, he rejoined JES Group, bringing with him experience, knowledge and a fresh perspective.
Justin’s rise within JES Group was gradual, steady and very well-earned. His progression from hands-on roles to supervisory positions, demonstrated a keen understanding of both the technical and managerial aspects of the business. His dedication and leadership were eventually recognized and rewarded in 2015 when he was appointed to the Board of Directors on the company’s incorporation.
As Director, Justin has been instrumental in overhauling the company’s senior management team, driving increases in both turnover and profitability. Under his leadership, JES Group has evolved into a multifaceted mechanical engineering company capable of undertaking major contract work. He has built upon excellent foundations, to strategically position the company for a future focused on the opportunities and demands presented by renewable energy and the drive to Net Zero, all the while maintaining the ethics, business practices and the company’s deep roots in the steel making industry established by its founder.
Beyond his professional achievements, Justin is also distinguished by his involvement in sports. A former junior international footballer with Baglan FC, Justin’s athletic career is notable; he was known as an uncompromising hooker for the Aberavon Fighting Irish Rugby League team and boxed successfully for the Port Talbot Bulldogs Boxing Club. He has been a key player and captain of Baglan RFC and remains an active committee member, stalwart and supporter.
Under his leadership, JES Group has become a cornerstone of the community, actively supporting local sports, schools, community groups, and charities. The company sponsors youth sports teams, funds educational programs, and participates in local charity events, fostering community cohesion and civic pride. This commitment to giving back has strengthened ties within the community, making JES Group not just a business leader, but a valued community partner.
Overall, Justin Johnson’s blend of technical expertise, strategic vision and deep-rooted commitment to both his company and community make him a distinguished leader in the mechanical engineering industry. His journey from the shop floor to the boardroom was not made easy and its achievement is a testament to his hard work and dedication. However, through that journey, he has earned the respect of his peers, his contemporaries and most of all his colleagues
